Super Sub Goes Delibašić, England Were Atrocious

Like a Lamborghini skidding into mange-ridden roadkill, the building momentum of all Europe’s top leagues has been halted this weekend by the Euro 2012 qualifiers. In a game which only required a point for England to progress to next year’s tournament, they achieved no more – but significantly no less – than meeting their quota.

England have secured their place in next year’s European Championships in a cosily familiar slump over the finishing line. The first half started promisingly as Ashley Young continued to cement his place in the side with the opening goal, and Darren Bent soon made it 0-2 to the visitors on half-hour.

Things then started to slide for England just before the break, when Elsad Zverotić pegged one back for Montenegro. The second half saw Wayne Rooney sent off for a petulant outburst that has been largely absent from his game for a while now. Maybe his old man had a bet on, la. The travelling side almost held out for the win but substitute Andrija Delibašić pissed on an already shit England bonfire by pegging things back to 2-2 right at the death. Nonetheless, this should be seen as a positive result, if not performance, for both parties. Montenegro and England are now officially heading for a potentially excruciatingly underwhelming Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine.
